Elardus Park area and property guide

This old established suburb in Pretoria East is popular with families attracted by the convenient location and wide range of amenities in the area.

About the area

Elardus Park is an established suburb in the east of Pretoria offering a diversity of homes meeting the unique requirements of different individuals and families.

Elardus Park is located south of Waterkloof Ridge and east of the N1 highway. It is a relatively old suburb still comprising comfortable sized, moderately priced, family homes with established gardens on fairly sizeable stands.

Over the years, many smallholdings in the area have been subdivided resulting in the construction of smaller property types like duet homes, townhouses and stack simplex complexes meeting the needs of individuals or young families.

The area profile reflects a well-balanced resident mix of age groups, and the emphasis is on family life. The suburb is served by the well-known Lyttleton 4 Community Policing Sub Forum, who, in a joint effort with the SAPS and on a volunteer basis, work towards combating crime and creating a safe, friendly and involved neighbourhood.

Elardus Park is home to many church denominations of which NG Elardus Park and the Collage Community Church are the most prominent.

Elardus Park’s location between Delmas Road in the east, the N1 to the northwest and the R21 in the southwest, provides comfortable access to most of the city’s other suburbs as well as popular Gauteng destinations.

The neighbourhood boasts a variety of educational, medical, leisure, business and shopping amenities and facilities. Its biggest local shopping complex, Elardus Park Shopping Centre, encompasses 49 convenience stores and ample open parking bays. It is also conveniently situated close to other major shopping centres, like the Castle Walk, Cornwall View and Waterglen shopping centres.

Elardus Park derives its name from Daniel Elardus Erasmus, the son of Daniel Jacobus Erasmus, who, together with other Erasmus family members, settled in the area in 1841. Today the historical Erasmus Castle (1892) on a hill to the west of Elardus Park, overlooking the suburb, is reminiscent of this prominent and pioneering Pretorian family.

I love living in Elardus Park because it is close to the highways and byways and everything else is just around the corner – from takeaway meals to curtain material or the veterinarian
